The catholics

"...a dream team of Sydney musicians... ambitious diversity... a remarkably relaxed and seamless flow of ideas. Their knack is being able to put a jazz spin on grooves from around the globe - South Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America - in a sunny, light-spirited way that belies the killer status of the players. This is jazz in a straw hat and Hawaiian shirt... sensuous and joyous music... a (barefoot) walk in the park."

Personnel

Lloyd Swanton leader, bass
Sandy Evans soprano and tenor saxophone
James Greening trombone, pocket trumpet
Dave Brewer guitar
Bruce Reid national steel guitar, lap steel guitar
Fabian Hevia percussion
Hamish Stuart drums

The catholics’ fourth album, seeing the baton change hands from long-standing members Dave Brewer, Toby Hall and Michel Rose to Jon Pease, Hamish Stuart and Bruce Reid. Also a couple of guest appearances by Chris Abrahams on Hammond organ.

Barefoot delivered tracks which are staples of The catholics’ effervescent live shows even today: High Times, In Love, Wild Life and Mossman, as well as a few absolute gems less heard these days, such as Moving Out, and the title track.

Originally released on Rufus Records (RF052).
