Hymn for John
Hymn for John is a heartfelt tribute to the band’s founder and leader, John Pocheé. Written shortly after John’s passing, the piece begins with a soulful tenor saxophone solo from Sandy Evans before moving to a more intimate duo statement from Miroslav Bukovsky and Steve Elphick. The ensemble then enters, building gradually, until the entry of trombonist James Greening, who sails over the ensemble with an impassioned and celebratory cry. The piece concludes with a poignant solo statement from altoist and composer Andrew Robson.

Ten Part Invention, founded in 1986 by the late Australian drummer John Pochée OAM, returns with its fifth album and first studio release in over twenty years.
Time Is Moved features premiere recordings of significant works by Miroslav Bukovsky, Sandy Evans, and the late Roger Frampton, alongside new compositions by Andrew Robson, Bukovsky, and Paul Cutlan. Together, these works bring the ensemble’s story vividly into the present.

Since the release of Unidentified Spaces (2000), five new members have joined the band, helping to carry forward the distinctive creative spirit that has long defined Ten Part Invention. That lineage is poignantly acknowledged in Evans’ homage to Frampton, The Invisible Man, and Andrew Robson’s Hymn for John, a tribute to the ensemble’s beloved founder.
Paul McNamara, pianist with Ten Part Invention from 2000–2022, also played an important role in shaping the music heard on this recording.

This album is dedicated to John Pochée OAM and to the departed members of Ten Part Invention whose contributions remain deeply woven into its story: Roger Frampton, Bernie McGann, Ken James, and Bob Bertles.
