Commissioned by Ars Musica Australis and the Sydney Improvised Music Association, these are three of the four pieces written by Ellen Kirkwood and premiered at the 2015 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival.

A big fan of weird fiction author China Mieville, Kirkwood was inspired by the author’s imaginative, dark and strange imagery to write music to illustrate four excerpts from Mieville’s novels. These tracks were recorded live at Foundry616 in Ultimo, Sydney, at their premiere.
