Date & Time:

I’m thrilled to be part of this project featuring a lot of new music for percussion and a diverse range of amazing percussion players.

I’ve composed a piece called Lockdown Konun-drum that explores some of the Surreal spaces and unexpected challenges that musicians have encountered during the pandemic. I had a sneak preview of Greg Sheehan’s new work for the project yesterday and it sounds incredibly beautiful.

****

Newly commissioned works for percussion, percussion and percussion by Greg Sheehan, Sandy Evans, Lee McIver, Giorgio Rojas, Ed Goyer and Ed Rodrigues (World Premieres).

It’s about time, shared time, common shared principles, sounds and instruments. It’s about a time and place – and the placement of time. The swing, the groove, the space, the clave – 2/3, 3/2 – shared and common elements. In Common Time, Synergy Percussion brings together percussive brethren through the pairing of Western 20th & 21st Century art music, improvising jazz groove and Afro-Latin percussion artists – and more – to explore the differences and commonalities of their artistic approaches.
