As well as being performers of high standing, both Evans & Daley are composers and band leaders who have presented multiple projects which have garnered high praise and a dedicated following. Long-term MARA! member and composer Paul Cutlan is studying this cross-cultural, stylistic hybridity in his PhD research. As part of his Creative Practice output, Cutlan has composed a cycle of songs, to poems in some of the languages which have helped shape MARA!'s cross-cultural journey. 'When Music Plays...' traces a narrative of love, the emotive potency of music, fallibility, and the healing power of reflection. The language of each poem offers a different lens through which to appreciate life and the world—each offering its own imagery and 'music'. For this project, the MARA! quintet is joined by the emotive beauty of a string quartet, creating a transportive and expressive palette of sound.

PUBLIQuartet is experimental Australian artist, Freyja Garbett - a full time pianist, producer, composer and teacher living and working on Dharawal Country, south of Sydney, NSW. As a pianist, composer and improviser, Freyja moves beyond traditional jazz boundaries, integrating interdisciplinary approaches to connect music, technology and the natural world. Freyja began playing violin and piano at a young age, eventually earning a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, where she graduated summa cum laude in Jazz Performance and Composition. She's worked with the likes of Matthew Keegan, Sandy Evans, Katie Noonan, Casey Donovan, Montaigne, Earth Boy, Ian Moss, Touch Sensitive, Stella Donnelly, Sandy Evans and Alejandro Sanz.
With a career spanning four decades, multi-award-winning Evans has enthralled audiences with both her mastery of the saxophone and her compositions. She has gained national and international acclaim and has had a profound impact on both contemporary jazz and improvised music. Her current trio features Toby Hall on drums and Brett Hirst on bass, who will join her for this final night celebration. Their most recent album, The Running Tide, was released last year.
