This performance will explore the shades of beauty to be found in between jazz, improvisation, Japanese and Indian musics. All of the musicians are internationally renowned practitioners in their fields. Dr. Suresh Vaidyanathan is one of India’s leading percussionists and has been described as the ‘Pele of percussion’. Adrian Sherriff and Sydney-based Sandy Evans collaborated with Suresh for many years in Guru Karaikudi Mani’s projects with the Australian Art Orchestra, touring throughout India, Europe and Australia. Miyama McQueen-Tokita is an internationally touring koto artist who performs traditional and experimental music. She has been a key contributor to AAO projects in recent years. All members of the ensemble are faculty for this year’s AAO Creative Music Intensive. Adrian Sherriff (bass trombone, winds & percussion), Sandy Evans (saxophones), Miyama McQueen-Tokita (koto) and Dr. Suresh Vaidyanthan (percussion).
