Multi-instrumentalist and composer Paul Cutlan describes ‘Pan-Demon’s Band’–this one-off gathering of special friends in the improvised music scene–as his 60th birthday present to himself. The word ‘demon’ conjures images of an evil, devilish spirit, while ‘pandemonium’ is a common term for utter chaos and noisy disorder. However, Britannica online clarifies the ancient Greek origin of the word daimōn, as referring to a spirit or supernatural being. So in the context of ‘pandemonium’, we hear ‘every spirit’.
This 60 minute performance will see continuously evolving groups of one to five people communicating in sound, immersed in the ongoing narrative, and bringing their individual voices to the mix.
