Saturday 19 October – Sandy Evans Quartet @ Foundry 616, Sydney

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear saxophonist Sandy leading her own jazz quartet.

Sandy has just returned from a very successful tour of Canada and the US where she performed at the Guelph Jazz Festivalin Canada with cellist Matt Brubeck and tabla maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. During this tour Sandy visited Wesleyan University for the launch of Testimony which has just been published by Wesleyan University Press.

The book and CD of this legendary collaboration between Sandy and Yusef Komunyakaa is available on Amazon and includes the full ABC recording of Testimony.

In her first gig as leader at Foundry616, Sandy teams up with old friends Toby Hall  and Alister Spence, and 2011 JRMA winner, Hannah James on bass.

On 1 November 2013 SIMA presents the next chapter in this thrilling dialogue between jazz and Indian music featuring music from Kapture  – a new dance work inspired by Ahmed Kathrada (Mandela’s Indian cell mate) commissioned by and for dancer Liz Lea.
