Sandy will perform a six-hour improvisation from 2-8pm. Musicians of all levels, instruments, ages and styles are invited to join Sandy for twenty-minute spots to raise funds. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for the 2016 Award. JRMA was founded in 2005 to assist in the professional development of an outstanding young female jazz musician, and the Award is named in honour of the late jazz pianist, Jann Rutherford. It is fully funded by private donations, and in partnership with Melbourne International women’s Jazz Festival (MIWJG), Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) and ABC Radio National. The Winner of the Award receives assistance with performances for her band, recording for ABC Radio National, and assistance with promotional material.

Festival Quintet feat. Sandy Evans, Angela Davis, Andrea Keller, Tamara Murphy and Sonja Horbelt

Since 2000, the MWIJF seeks each year to form a group of leading female musicians to perform and promote their own original material, and those of other female artists.  Past members have included Nadje Noordhuis, Felicity Provan, Froy Agre, Shannon Barnett, Monique DiMattina and Fiona Burnett.

This year features the extraordinary Sandy Evans on tenor sax and recently returned from the US alto saxophonist Angela Davis, with award winning andrea Keller on piano, in demand Tamara Murphy on bass and Sonja Horbelt on drums.
