Thursday 30 April – Foundry616

“The way art is meant to be….” Shane Nichols (All About Jazz)

Vale David Perry

Many jazz lovers will know the fantastic film ‘Dr Jazz’ that David Perry made about contemporary jazz at the Strawberry Hills Hotel in the 1990s, featuring bands such as the Bernie McGann Trio, Mike Nock Quartet and Clarion Fracture Zone. Sadly, David passed away recently. He was an extraordinary artist, filmmaker, and dear friend to many jazz musicians, including me. I am dedicating my concert at Foundry616 this Thursday 30th April to honouring David’s life and work, including screening excerpts from his film ‘Dr Jazz’. Please join us if you can.

“Jazz is like communism without the purges. It’s the kind of music that leaves you open.” – David Perry

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Sandy leading her jazz quartet, one of her key ensembles as a leader and featuring three equally strong jazz musicians and leaders in their own right.

This quartet sees eminent saxophonist and composer Sandy Evans delighting in the freedom of the classic jazz quartet with the imaginative rhythm section of Alister Spence, Brett Hirst and Hamish Stuart.

Sandy, Alister, Brett and Hamish are known for their work together in bands such as Clarion Fracture Zone and The catholics. In various combinations they have performed at JazzFest Berlin, The Pori Jazz festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival and toured jazz clubs in Europe and North America includingStadtgarten, Cologne, Unterfahrt, Munich, Bimhuis, Amsterdam, Jazzclub Neue Tonne, Dresden.
